Corsa della botti (Barrel race) - Nizza Monferrato
Nizza hosts a lot of fairs and festivals during the spring, summenr and autumn months. The most notable include the Corsa delle Botti, usually held on the 4th weekend of May (worth checking though as it was the 3rd weekend in 2006!) - where many of the wine cantinas from the surrounding area compete by pushing giant oak barrels around the streets. During the day, visitors can enjoy ‘monferratointavola’, where each of the local towns and villages offer their regional food specialities, not to mention their own wines to taste or buy. The barrel racing starts and finishes in the main square, while families enjoy the huge market and the funfair..
